leaking carbs on my 75 cb550
« on: May 15, 2008, 10:04:33 AM »
I have been chasing a fuel leak since i started riding. it started off on the #1 which turned out to be a stuck needle, then moved to #4 which i have no idea i took the bowl off a sprayed carb clean put it back together didn't leak, just the the #3 started leaking. took the whole carb bank off and striped and cleaned all 4 reinstalled then the leak moved to the #2 carb. by this point i am pulling my hair out. Any suggestions would be great. i have rebuild kits on the way.

Are you reusing 30 year old rubber gaskets?

Did you check your stand pipes for cracks?

I did reuse the gaskets the gas is leaking from the overflow. I looked at the stand pipes when i had all of the carbs apart not to say i looked really close but didn't see anything wrong. the thing that confuses me is that the problem traveled from carb to carb.

Float sticking??

Maybe it's time for a rebuild?

(sound of can opener on worm can)
This may be crud in your gas. Little bits randomly stick in the float valves and cause overflow, then wash out after a while. An inline fuel filter in your gas line(s) solves it.
