Total-seal piston rings?

Hello!

I did a quick search for total-seal piston rings and i didnt get much in return.
I tried total seal, total-seal and totalseal too.

Is anyone running a set on their bike? I am considering using them on a 1976F i'm rebuilding for another sohc4 member.

If i ever bore my 750F2 out to 850cc i will for sure use them, but right now my compression is 155 across all cylinders dry. so i cant justify a rebuild yet.

FYI, they are gapless piston rings. Its a great way to gain HP and to keep you oil cleaner for longer. (less blow by)

Try searching again.  This time use "Total Seal" with the quotes.  I've used them on a Jaguar XK, and I posted about it here a while ago.  If they don't have your size, they will make them up for you to your specifications.

so, they can do the F2/F3's? the bores are the same but the thicknesses are different. i think the oiler is the same but the 1st and 2nd ring are thinner. i know i called them about a year ago and they told me it was going to cost serious $$$ to have a custom set made.  this is the only thing holding me back from my F2 rebuild.

I have always been told if you put in new rings and you do not hone your cylinders the engine will smoke.
Pick up one of those chimney sweep looking DIY hone brushes and use a power drill with mineral spirits as a lube and wash.  but like MRieck said, just a light cross hatch buzz.

i just talked to keith and for you F2/F3 guys stranded without rings, you have two options.

1: total seal can custom make a set. they don't have this bore/width combo so it'll cost a little over $200 to make some.

2: or regroove your current pistons to accept the '69-'76 style rings for about $100. then just purchase a ring set from Z1 or wherever.

I'd say that's quite a deal either way you go.

or just go balls out and get a 836F2 big bore kit from dynoman  ;D

where do you get rings regrooved? I'm looking for someone to do this for my 605 Henry Abe pistons. The oil ring groove is too small and must be widened to accept a stock 750K oil ring.

total seal. contact keith and send him the measurements you need cut. i was quoted $25 per groove.

He said that they are all the same and that the 77-78 k or f's will accept the same rings as the earlier models.
The only hic-up is that he cant get a 3 piece oil ring (he can custom make 4 three piece rings for $50 more) so he uses a 2 piece ring. Price is $122.56 for a set to cover all four pistons with a 2 piece oil ring. Part number: S1796

He said he remembered talking to some guy about it and that the dude sent him in his pistons. Turns out his measurements were wrong and he was able to use the same rings as the other 750s and save a butt load of cash.

I hope this clears it up!

Well at least now everyone knows what the right price and part number is!

have you got them in yet?
How does it run? Do you feel a marked difference?
Are you running a stock bore or a big bore?
Have you done a compression test?
Whats the difference from stock PSI?

I assume you have a 77-78 750F?

it's going to be a long, long, long time before i get this F2 back together again. i just wanted to make sure rings were possible on the project before making an attempt to actually rebuild. unfortunately, i have other projects to focus on for the moment. besides, i stilll need new guides and a valve job before i start to reassemble

I'm taking the easy way out on my F3. Having the pistons re-grooved for standard K series rings. So I can advertise that you can buy standard ring sets for $14 compared to $100 or so...

I was extremely frustrated with the whole no longer made answer with my thin rings...

Post ring thickness for the F if you got them..

 Later 2nite  I will post thickness on 4 different pistons used in 750, none are the F model..

stuff arrived today. parts listed the widths as 1.5 1.5 2.8. so, if you have a 3 peice oiler, you can use that on the F2's but will need to find 1.5 for the top and compression rings. total came to 139.92. not a bad deal for the F2 to live another day. once i get some extra cash to get the exhaust valve guides replaced and get a valve job, all i need to buy is a set of primary chains and it's good to go.

keith is going to hate me now cause i need to bug him for a set of weisco 915 rings, lol. i think i'm in luck cause they list a set of 67.5mm rings. good guys and would definately do business with them again.

Ressurecting an old thread since EVERYONE pointed me to this one when I was looking for rings for my 750F2.  

1.5/1.5/2.8 rings are NOT right for my bike.  Trying to figure out what is going on here.

My F2 seems to need 1.0/1.2/2.8.  At least that is what my pistons are as I have my engine in pieces and the wrong rings in my hands.

I'm highly confused how no one else had this happen to them since multiple people say they got these rings already.

Just spoke to Keith at Total-Seal.  He said my pistons are a newer run that used 1.2/1.2/2.8(he quoted the measurements to me, I didn't even say them) and that no one has them anymore.  I'm up a creek and all I can do is get my ring lands cut to accept the 1.5s.  So I am on a major hunt today for a machinist who can handle this.

I'll qualify this by saying I less about the 750s (and even less of the later ones) than probably any of the smaller fours but would it be easier to get different pistons?

The 750F2 has domed pistons due to a larger head dome.  To find the proper pistons with the proper ring groove will be next to impossible I think.  Anyone I have spoken to so far can't help me.  Cycle-X is supposed to be calling me back about whether or not they have factory bored sized pistons, but they don't list them on their site. 

I'm so screwed that I am MORE than tempted to call up Cycle-X and order one of their pre-bored cylinders and a set of 836 pistons and just get this done.
