'78 750 Fork seal, DOHC?
« on: June 20, 2008, 06:07:50 PM »
So, after looking at Z1 and other bike places, the seals look like the ones i've encountered before; you have the seal and a dust cover on the fork.

well, looking at the ones on my bike:

it looks like the seal and dust cover are one piece. is this a DOHC fork seal?

My bike is a '78 CB750F SS and those are EXACTLY the same seal/caps I have on mine.  Cheers.
No matter where you go, there you are.

well, here's the rest of the fork

and also the fork caps

i've read about the air charged oil forks on the DOHC's so that's why i speculate it's a DOHC fork and possibly front end. don't know if it was a swap or maybe Honda started using DOHC parts on the later 78 F's?

i think i found the seals on partsnmore. look under the DOHC. i guess there are seals and dust covers for this fork. i just prefer to know what i have so i can order it beforehand.

If you want to look at a parts diagram for your particular bike, there are a number of online OEM suppliers who have the diagrams and sell the parts.  www.powersportspro.com is one of them.  Here's the diagram for the 78Fs front fork.  Dust cap and seal are two different parts, #22 and #23. Your forks look like 77/78 F forks to me.  Those fork caps are aftermarket . . . .

The lowers are definitely from a 78 F.  The uppers have either been modified, or are from another bike.  I don't know the tube diameter from a DOHC bike (79-83), but if I run into Matt from Birmingham today, I'll check them out and let you know..

What makes you think the tubes are not stock 77/78F stuff?  The caps are aftermarket, the headlight ears are aftermarket, but the tree's, fork tubes and lowers look like stock parts.  Tubes are slid up in the trees . . . .

Eurban, My thoughts were that the aftermarket caps constituted a mod  ;D ;D

yes, the forks are slid up. i have the shorty shocks in the rear so i had to compensate in the front. all the oil squirted out from the seals so i have zero dampening and then i bottom out on the front when i hit a bump.

thanks for the help guys.
