4 into 1's have you got enough ground clearance?
« on: June 20, 2008, 07:32:37 PM »
OK so I'm comong to the conclusion that if I want to actually ride (as opposed to tinker, fiddle, spend money) my bike I will have to live (for the mean time anyway) with these horrible 4 into 1's slung under it.
I can improve the seal on the head no problem with new exhaust gaskets and can reroute the clutch cable so it stops burning the plastic off the outer casing.
I can even modify the crash bars to fit in front of the pipes.
My big problem is ground clearance when cornering, do you have to take the centre stand off these bikes when you run 4 into 1's?
I'd rather keep it as servicing is so much easier when you can lift either wheel off the ground etc.
Any comments on good, bad or otherwise tricks to clear the stand.......Hush.
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

My 750F3 came with 4-1 and a center stand from the factory.

My pegs will scrape before the exhaust does...

OK here's some piccies of the offending articles, I've never had 4 into 1's all my bikes have had standard factory pipes.
Even though my bike is a wee way off road ridable I'm sure the first left hander I take will see me in the weeds.

That doesn't look good.  I see what you mean now, I thought you were just being paranoid before.  I seem to recall your bikes previous owner kept the original pipes -or am I confusing you with someone else?  So are those pipes new to the bike?

Lots of us run 4 into 1's and my center stand tucks up alot more than that.  I've scraped my 4 into 1 leaning way over, but never any part of the center stand.

Wait for some of the 650 folks to chime in, but you definitely need to change something or you're going to have problems.

Nah you got it right, PO swapped the originals onto another 650 he was selling, guess my bike has the ones from his other bike.
I've got the headers almost aligned now but that stand stop is holding centre stand down too far.
I've gotta put new crushable manifold gaskets in so the pipes have to come off now anyway, will cut that offending stopper off then...cheers.

Re do the stop the PO made looks like not much thought went into it anyway.  Or take the stand off.   Have 4-1 on all my bikes and the stops I made let the senter go up untill it almost touches the chain.

There's something severely stupid about the centre stand angle. If it interferes with the pipe and won't go any higher, you'll have to remove the stand. Hopefully there is some type of stop bracket you can subject to severe modification. The centre stand should sit roughly parallel to the swingarm.

I scrape my 4 into 1 on right hand corners and my center stand on left hand corners (but I could have my center stand a bit low since I made a stop for it myself).

You could always remove the c-stand but keep it around for maintenance (thats what I did).
