I went to the Spraymax website in one of the posts in this thread. I'm interested in using it as a clear coat over a dupliucolor  acrylic lacquer metalflake I want to use on my bike and helmet. Does anyone know if spraymax can be used over acrylic lacquer?

The Spraymax site had this notation as well concerning their product:

IR drying recommended

What does this mean?

IR drying recommended

IR usually means Infra Red.  Bill Best, founder of Thermal Electric of Columbia, S.C., developed the infrared heater technology in the 1960s, primarily to give automakers a faster way to dry the paint on cars.

I just finished my tank with the SprayMax Urethane Glamour 2 Part Clear over Duplicolor MetalSpecs Silver Flake (with custom graphics) - results were unbelievable - I was stunned. The SprayMax sprayed like a gun right from the can & the gloss is on par with any "real" gun job. Very, very minimal orange peel - I could hit with 2000 grit & a buffer and it would be pure glass. TOP NOTCH PRODUCT!!!

Highly recommended - I find myself just staring at my tank forever in total disbelief. As with any paint job, prep work is key - and you want to spray in a dust free environment (with a mask). Spray it out in the backyard on a windy day & even a $1,000 paint job looks like dung.

Still in disbelief...

BTW - Get SprayMax Clear at Eastwood = best price, fast ship, dependable rep.

I've bookmarked the eastwood site and will buy some as soon as I can afford it. Any suggestions as to how many cans it would take to paint  a tank, sidecovers, seatpod and fairing upper and lower?

buy 2 cans......they are a good size.
as i stated earlier  1 can did 3  heavy coats on a tank, side covers and chain guard.
i bought 2 and only used one.I'm sure I'll find a use for the second one.
also remember ...once the 2 part process is activated you have 24 hours to finish the job per can.

my buddy and i used a can of spraymaxx for the first time, with one can we clearcoated his 83  hondas nighthawk frame,my sidecovers and a few misc brackets,,this stuff is awesome,we tried cleaning some overspray up with thinner precleaner would not wipe off, i opened up the can after we used it with cutters, it has a very high quality filter in it,nice spray pattern tip also, the hardening agent is held in an inner aluminum tube inside the can that gets punctured from a pin on the bottom of the can,,,this stuff is great,no orange peel, no cleaning of air guns, glass finish a+ product, only drawback is i can't mix in some metallic flake in with the clear ,like when i did i painted my tank,oh well i'll probably use it as a final coat next time i paint my spare tank
