speedometer tachometer lights blinking with turn signal
« on: June 27, 2008, 07:30:42 PM »
i recently got another 550, to replace the one i messed up trying to rebuild over the winter. it runs great but there is one strange problem. the tach and speedometer lights do not light up. however when i press the turn signal they (both tach and speed) blink simutanously with the turn signal? the wiring appears to be orginal and not tampered with. anyone else had this problem? i tried to look at the wiring diagram and it made my head spin...

Sounds like a bad ground somewhere.

look for a badly grounded or rusty looking green wire attaching to the frame or earth point on your bike... clean them all up - and problem will be solved.

Most things in the headlight shell tend to ground via the shell's mounting bolts.  There's a flat spade connector tab that sticks out from teh bolt, ground connects to that.

I had ground problems and sometimes weird things happened.

Orange/left and light blue/right should be the wires to the signals. Tach lights used brown and green for ground.

I hate electrical problems!
