Starting to rebuild my 87 CB750 F2 finally
« on: July 27, 2008, 04:10:57 AM »
Hey guys, I've finally arrived in Oz and our household stuff, including my bike, has arrived. Now to start the rebuild. Can anyone give me some advice on what to do first? I thought I would do everything on the frame and do the engine separately as it has dropped a bigend bearing and I need to fix it. (A big job since I'm not too confident but will give it a go. ). I need some advice on what order to start putting things back on the frame. I have had it sandblasted and re powder coated but I'm not sure the best way to go about rebuilding it. Any idea's (which I am sure there will be heaps) would be appreciated. By the way the membermap thing is great.
Cheers

Looks like yer bike hit a serious time warp on the trip, Roscoe ;)

I like a rolling chassis to work on. Swingarm, suspension, wheels and kick/center stands. Then wiring harness and start mounting stuff that plugs into it. Tank and seat last after engine work has been done and it's back in the frame. If your re-using an "endless" chain make sure to fit it when doing the swingarm and rear shocks, then zip-tie to upper frame rail to keep it out of the way.

Glad the move went smooth :) :)
Give me..a frame to build a bike on, and my imagination will build upon that frame

Hi Scondon, thanks for the advice. I think I'll do that way. It sounds pretty logical. I guess I have been a bit daunted by the whole thing but at least now I can start on it fully instead of little bits here and there in NZ. I've got it all spread out so I can get to everything, and see what I haven't got and need to get.
I'll keep you all up to date on my progress. Thanks again for the help.
Cheers
