Forgive me if i'm leading this down the wrong path...I'm not as familiar with the 500.  Is it not possible to run your brake return spring 'inboard' vs out?  See where this connects to the pivot arm below:

Hmmm, not sure. I'll have to check. I DO have a 400F pivot, but I'm thinking the arm on it is much shorter than the 500 pivot arm. Not sure what that will do as far as how the rear brake functions.

Just weld your brake light switch bracket on the inside of the frame rail and a tab to the 500 pivoit arm for the spring to attach to.

Poor pic but you get the drift. Same idea as above except with a winters worth of dust.

I went out to the garage and took a look. I think the 400F brake pivot will work and it has an arm for the spring already attached. I'd still have to move the switch bracket.
Or, weld a small tab onto the 400F brake pedal and keep the 500 switch location. That way, I can return it to stock if need be.

Brent, I see you removed that "guard" or loop or whatever it is from the RH side foot peg. It looks like it will be in the way even with the 550F kick pedal. Easy enough to remove, I guess.

This thread is great news. Last week, I was thinking about how to move the pegs backwards just a tiny bit on my CB550F. Now I'll give the CB400F pegs a try and see if the 550F brake pedal fits.

Fritz, did you ever get to try 400F footpegs on your 550F? I have a 550F and am interested in trying this out but I can't find any answers on whether it works on the 550F as it does on the 550K

Hello Clinto,

Fritz, did you ever get to try 400F footpegs on your 550F? I have a 550F and am interested in trying this out but I can't find any answers on whether it works on the 550F as it does on the 550K

Bought the 400F footpegs but found that I need the brake lever too. Also, I think an engine bolt of the 550K is required. Meanwhile there was just not enough time to do more than maintenance work on the bike. Wrenching is fun, but riding is even more fun :)
Maybe, if  I find a 400F brake lever, I will try again...

Cool, thanks for the reply. If you ever find a brake lever and get it together be sure to update us

+1 for updates .. Curious to see a definitive list of parts to run 400f pegs on a 550k, in the interest of retaining a stock look with no modifications & minimal down time, it's July and I don't have a welder. There is a set on flea bay currently:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1976-HONDA-CB400-PEGS-PEG-BRACKETS-CB-400-FRONT-PEGS-REAR-PEGS-EXTRA-FRONT-PEG-/282469563893?hash=item41c47f7df5:g:04QAAOSwaeRZEi0p&vxp=mtr

Within this link is a list of parts, front & rear pegs from a '76 400f and their mounting brackets. What else is needed?

That's a lot of money for a set missing the linkage and shifter.
I've done it a few times. I can post up pics and a better description later when I'm not on my phone. I have a thread around here somewhere, too.

Here's a thread that covers the "How To" portion a little more :

http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=89003.0

To work the best, the heim joint on the shifter needs to be flipped (requires grinding and rewelding). There's a bracket on the RH peg that needs to be removed. Sometimes, the holes on the back side of the pegs that align with the post on the frame need to be enlarged or ovaled out. The brake lever needs to be heated and bent and a tab added for the rear brake light switch. And lastly, you'll need a 550F kicker.
