Jay, when my Grandma had a stroke and lapsed into a coma I insisted that everyone in the room always speak to her as though she was awake in Italian which was her fIrst language. When she awoke she told us she could hear us and wanted to respond, finally she forced herself back. Give it a try. The brain has amazing healing power, as does the spirit.

A little more has happened. They are doing some testing today, and if things go well she will have her breathing tubes taken out and be much more comfortable. She still isn't responsive to command, but they tell us this may take a while. The big plus is that Bre will respond to a gentle touch on her skin, as opposed to a pinprick or a pinch. Shows that the inputs are getting through. I've never been very patient, the waiting game is hard for me to do, but I'll be fine. DR, great verses, esp the first one. Exactly what I needed to hear. I can't wait till I am back asking stupid questions as to why my bike won't run right. ;)

Jay, thank you for sharing so that we can pray for your little girl. It is a privilege for us to lift Breanna up to the One who can do all things. I am the product of an astounding miracle. I know that God works miracles in our "modern" times.

I cannot begin to imagine the grief and anxiety you share with your family. I and my family are praying for Breanna and your family. I'll pass this along to other members of my church as I am able.

Dark Rider's verse is one of my favorites. Psalms 27:14 is very similar:

Wait for the Lord; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the Lord.

I don't know if there is any more difficult waiting than the waiting a parent feels for the healing and safety of a child. You may not feel very strong at the moment; however, your asking for prayers and your updates demonstrate fortitude.

Jay, so good to hear of the progress that Bre has made thus for. Sure is good also t see all of the support that the group has given and, of course, it is of no surprise either. 8) ;)

Well, It took me so long to get this type, that Burma beat me to this verse, but I'm gonna leave it as is. :)

       Here's another verse to consider
                     NIV Bible (New International Version)
       Psalms 27 Verse 14

Wait for the Lord; Be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.

Thank you Jay, for making us aware of Bre's situation and for taking the time to update us, as you can. We never know what life has in store for us and, with God's help, we just need to take it as it comes. From experience, I know that it's not always easy.

Our Daughter Karla, had seizures from the age of 11 months til she was 18 years old. She went in for brain surgery, to have the left tempral (spelling?) lobe removed and my wife and I had such a "Calm Feeling" about it that most would not believe. But, you see, we knew that she was going to be all right because we had placed it in God's Hands. Everyone else was nervous and on edge (and that's not to say that they weren't Christians either. We had been down a long rough road with the seizure thing and just knew that this was the end of the road for the seizures. Karla has been "Seizure Free" ever since Oct 10, 1996. Thank God! ;)

Sorry about going on like that, just can't keep from telling that one. It has such a good ending! :)

We're still Praying Jay,  Bill ;)

Jay, Breanna's on our church prayer chain now. My mum reminded me that my little niece has a friend who suffered a loss of oxygen when he was about four years old. He was in a coma for a long time and wasn't expected to make a recovery; however, he made a full recovery over time. We don't doubt that many, many prayers made a difference for him.

She also reminded me that we fuss about the Internet from time to time, but isn't it nice to know that it also has the power to do much good.

Always gotta have Faith, you know?  ;) Always! :)

burma, that's cool about your niece's friend and, I agree, Prayers DO make a difference. :)

Yeah, if it wasn't for the internet, we wouldn't have this connection between us and I don't even want to think about how THAT would be.

Proud to be a part of THIS support group! ;)

Sorry Bill- Wanted to update yesterday, but time got away from me. Things look a little better, very slowly. Today is a big test, they are going to take her breathing tube out and try things on her own. The way I understand it, breathing is involentary, but it takes a certain level of concisness to maintain the throat and airway. So it is a fairly big deal. Bre is starting to focus on things, but not consistantly, but hey, it's progress. I remain confident. Thanks everyone, gotta go, more soon.

Thanks for the update Jay.

Even if you're not a religious person, the power of intention has got to help.

Lets all keep positive and focus on Bre getting better. The mind is a powerful tool and collective minds focused on the same thing is even better  :)

Jay

No need for YOU to apologize Jay. ;) We totally understand your position and don't envy you at all. :( I probably shouldn't have said anything. To me, it's kinda like it's my Daughter that we're talking about (and I imagine that, at least, everyone here, who's got a child feels the same way) except we're out here and not there with you. I am ALWAYS impressed about how this bunch is there for each other, as much as possible.

So glad to hear about any progress in her recovery, but I also know what a strain things can be on a parent, in times that concern the health of your children. When our daughter had her first first seizure and was later diagnosed with Epilepsy, we were pretty stressed and this went on for years. We keep praying for a medicine or procedure that would help her. My wife claimed that, after years of this, it wasn't taking a toll on her (after I made a comment that it seemed like it was starting to get to us) and a couple of years later, my wife went into depression, which left me taking care of everything (Not That I'm Complaining mind you). Even though we knew that things were in God's Hands, we have a natural tendacy to try to take care of everything and I promise you that, soon as we were able to turn things over to HIM, things started to get better and then, Karla was a candidate for the Brain Surgery, which eliminated the seizures (even though she has other problems, we are working through them together).

Didn't mean to get carried away on this, just wanted to show that God takes care of his own, is his own way. ;) Hope I haven't seemed to try to draw attention from Bre and Jay, I certainly didn't mean to.

                                  Take care all,  Bill ;)

Well, she had the tubes out for about 11 hours, but the doctors felt they should re-insert them. She tried really hard, but she's just not quite able to go it on her own yet. Earlier today she had a trach tube put in, that went very well. She's much more comfortable without all that stuff hanging on her face. They will start some fairly agressive therapy and rehab soon, probably tomorrow. We regard this as maybe a small step back, but certainly not a big one. More later.
