Quick Spark Plug Cap Questions
« on: August 30, 2005, 10:06:47 AM »
One of my OEM plug caps reads 12K ohms resistance, two read the requisite 10K ohms and one reads about 8.7 ohms. Are these readings within acceptable tolerances? If not, have those with prior experience determined that http://www.coyotemotorsports.com is the best place to buy?

I thought they were supposed to be 5K Ohm.  I don't think I would use them if they were higher than 10K.

Just bought new caps for my cb750 from www.partsnmore.com for $6.00 a cap. Check David Spares and they want $22.50 U.S. for 1&4, but these are OEM. Service Honda wants $12.50 for 1&4 and $9.50 for 2&3, plus min.$8.00 shipping. If yor place an order from Partsnmore shipping is free. They are NGK's caps. No problem with them. You could check WesternHills honda website and see what they want, but if you go OEM you will pay top dollar.

Cap prices always seem to go up. Caps should be 5k ohm +-500 I suppose. Ngk caps are as good as any OEM probably better. You can also unscrew the inside of the cap and pull out the resistor I am told (will do it but have not yet) and put in a solid copper piece to remove the resistance. Bit more spark then.

When you change the caps you may want to just clip the end of the wire as bit so the screw gets into to clean copper wire. You can get a bit of corrsion and errosion there at the ends. Bob
