How to remove wires from a connector plug.
« on: June 30, 2008, 04:13:51 PM »
Hi guys!
I'm have an ignition switch that's had the brown connector plug cut off and I've managed to get another plug. This is for a K0-K1 harness. So, how do I get the wires out of the plug so I can hook it up to the ignition switch wires?
Or, is it easier to resolder the plug and wires to the ignition switch? please see the pics.:
Replacement plug and switch.
Thanks,
Cliff.

I'm not familiar with that specific plug.  But, the pins usually have barbs that hold them in. These barbs must be compressed, in order to withdraw the pins.
You may be able to peer into the plug to see where these barbs are hooking.
They use a sleeve arrangement to do this extraction.  It's a solid barrel if removed from the from the front, and a split sleeve if removed from the rear.
Here are a couple of pin extractor examples.  Of course, there is usually a specific tool type for each connector type. But, the barrel size is usually the most important factor.

I have made extractors out of brass tubing.  The special tools can be quite expensive.
