Just an aside, can you glue these suckers in with some heavy duty industrial strength glue?

I was wondering the same thing.  I would imagine it would be fine since it is not under pressure on the intake side.  Some thick, heat resistant goop would probably do the trick.

This brings up a question on mine...

I had my broken flange welded in by a machine shop and they put a thick weld bead on it, so I'm not too worried about it being airtight, but should I be?  Can you think of any way to test that?

I got the intake flange in the mail today. Thanks again for sending it!! I can now hand it over as well as my cylinders to be honed..

Another question I have in regards to buying rings, is that I see piston rings for sell every where, but does it include the oil ring and compression ring within each set??

Hey Jag,

I don't know the answer to your question, but I was recently looking for rings myself and I could only find them for like $160 (OEM).  I guess the '77 and '78 are odd years.  I decided to just get the 836cc kit from CycleX since it comes with rings.  Cost $399.  Not sure if you were thinking about the same, but something to consider.

Oh, and one other thing.  If I had the chance to do it over, I probably would have had the shop weld all of the flanges as you can see the 1 and 4 flanges even with the carbs on.  So I have a weld bead on the 1 and a hex on the four.  I guess it is irrelevant if your buggered flange is on the 2 or 3.  Something to think about.

Hahaha..  I was thinking the same thing myself.

As to when I look down at new and improved. freshly rebuilt engine, I'll see some shiny weld and always think of BungHole and his generosity.

If all you guys become surrogate owners, The bike will definitely have and get a lot of love and attention that's for sure!
