Anyone ever hear of a Rokon bike?
« on: June 19, 2008, 02:15:32 PM »
A buddy of mine here in town just picked a complete one up for next to nothing.  Gotta say its the craziest bike I have ever seen.  Not to mention its 2 wheel drive and the wheels are actually canisters that you can put gas or water in.  Anyways here is the sute.

We had a Rokon Ranger come through the dealer I used to work at.  Wild!  I didn't realize it was Honda powered until I went to the website just now.

They also made some sort of semi-mainstream-futuristic dirtbikes in the mid 70's. They had an automatic tranny w/belt drive, disc brake, mag wheels and a pullstart !

Have I heard of them.... nope..

but what do I know anyhow... ;)

Early ones are Trailbreakers, if the wheels are empty , you can float across a river or lake. They came with Chrysler engines and a British 3 spd trans (ones guys like to find for Whizzers)

The later dirtbike one was a 340cc I think, had Kimtab Snowflake mags on it.

Rokons are pretty cool machines. Hunters seem to like them around these parts. I'd have one except I like to do my tromping around in the woods on foot and I'm not a hunter...not yet anyway. The way things are going though I might have to shoot at something besides paper to keep food on the table.  ::)

Saw a Rokon sidecar on CL recently...made me want one even more.

^^ One of those with a sidecar would be freaking sweet!  It is one of the craziest look bikes I have seen.  I will try to get some pics when he gets it done.

I can recall seeing a shiny new Rokon MotoTractor in the showroom at the Honda dealer a few decades ago.... always wondered why....

Rokons are a cool cool bike. The old man, years ago, had one. Only rear wheel drive, and without the canister wheels. But it was Orange with the punisher logo on it. So it was about even!  ;D

Never got to ride it, but one can assume they aren't the fastest, but certainly the most capable for serious backwoods travel.

A guy in our town had one in the late 70s. Used it to get to his remote little camp. Faster than a tractor and could almost go anywhere.  Should of read the website. I grew up in the White Mtns of New Hampshire. 2 hrs from Keene.

So, the strategy is to lie to people you are asking for help?

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Good luck!

El-tigre 6000. 440 exciter? Blizzard 9500? TRX ?polaris? John Deere Liquefire? Those JDs were fast. What vintage sled? I miss my 74 340 moto-ski futura. Not.  Those 440 exciters were fast and reliable. I can smell all those sleds from here.MMMM.. If i hadnt ridden some of them I could hear em too...

honestly don't know which one he got that day, he has I think over 20. a few racers, couple rare birds, and a few that are fond memories.  he is the second owner of a sno-jet thunderjet 650 oval racer. also has a 340 srx, couple of the tripple 650 cat racers (oval) and one of the real rare ones is a turf tiger, cat made it just for grass drags :)  he has a lot more, but I can't honestly say I know what they are lol!
