Road conditions central MA
« on: June 26, 2008, 04:55:11 AM »
I had to take advantage of the weatherman's promise that yesterday would include no rain, so I decided not to work and went out for a ride. Ended going to Amherst for lunch from Needham taking back roads just about all the way.

Highlights and no lights:
Rt 202 is newly repaved and is a joy for riding between rt 2 and it's intersection with 9 in Belchertown. Below that headed towards the Ma pike entrance at Palmer it's OK, but new pavement is the best.
Rt 122 is also in good shape from New Salem into Barre. Rt 62 still is awful between Barre and the Barre dam picnic area, and then just about impassable from there to rt 68. I don't understand how the road can still be open. Better alternatives from Barre east are to take Williamsville Rd to Hubbardston, the rt 68 south to pick up 62 again, or take rt 62 to the dam entrance then Barre Rd. northeast to rt 68 south.
