New UK helmet ratings - interesting....
« on: June 30, 2008, 01:09:31 AM »
Since the helmet topic sufraced recently....

http://sharp.direct.gov.uk/search/results/?sort=manufacturer&dir=asc&manufacturer=0&model=0&type=0&rating=0&size=0&price=0&x=45&y=4

This is a new UK government initiative. New, broadened tests to compare the quality of helmets available on the market. Interestingly, not all super-expensive helmets got the best ratings..
But check for yourself. I'm happy I bought my wife this Lazer LZ-6...

hey, give them some time! They just started (this spring), and they say that till end of 2008 "majority" of helments (on UK market) will be covered.

Still - it's interesting to see that some not-megabuck helmets are better than the more expensive ones... :)

Too right, good to see that quality doesnt always have a mega buck price tag

When you spend big bucks on a helmet you're not typically paying for more protection.  You're paying for more comfort and amenities like special visors and better ventilation and also the name.

True, but while the "comfort" benefits may be very subjective, the safety factor is rather not....

Anyway - this is just one more comparison/test, but I like i, because it's done by an government agency, UK one, and I tend to give them a bit of credit when it comes to objectivity and truth-finding. But of course it's personal... ;)

I just hope that somebody may find it useful.... I like the concept and initiative.
