Hello. New girl from KY
« on: June 25, 2008, 03:28:21 PM »
I haven't gotten my bike yet due to job and debtor issues, but I registered here to learn all about these great bikes. I hope to have a wealth of knowledge before I pull the trigger on a CB550.

Welcome.  What made you decide on a 550?  Had you ridden one before?

Like your screen name btw.

Welcome! What ever you buy I bet it will be nice cruising the road of KY. I prefer 750 or bigger cuz I am 6'2" @ 205lbs and also like the power to take on an occasional passenger.

Welcome from a fellow Ky'ian. Hope you have better luck finding an older Honda street bike in KY than I did.The ones I found were quite expensive or they wouldn't even respond when I tried to contact them and I ended up going to evilbay. You've come to the right place here for info. Good luck and post pictures when you get your bike.

Welcome from So Calif.  Hope you get things ironed out soon and find a CB550 that you like.  Is your email your first name?  If so, that is my daughters name also (same spelling).  She is 3 and likes motorcycles and Speed Channel.

Just spent part of a long trip on a 400 in northeast ky- love those endless two lane ribbons twisting through the rolling hills...and all freshly paved, it seemed.

     Have fun!

I haven't ridden one before, but from a few recommendations as I want something I can take out on long trips. I'm wanting to do several cross country trips, but I also wanted something small enough for my size at 5' 7" and 135lbs. Met another girl online who owns and is working on her own 550 and she sent me to these forums. I have fallen in love with 60s and 70s bikes as I am also eyeing owning a Suzuki Rv90.

I think you'll be very happy with the 550. It's the smallest of the 'big' bikes. I'm actually not far off from your size (okay, I'm a small dude) and it fits me well. Wouldn't mind it being an inch lower. Very comfortable. And it has been super reliable. I'd not hesitate to take mine accross the country.

Plus they are super easy to work on, which is something you should learn to do yourself if you want to ride a 30+ year old machine.

Welcome to the boards. Yeah, I think anything bigger then a 550 would just be too much bike considering your size. I have a 400/4 looking to move up to a bigger bike. Because I'm 6'2 and like 215 lbs. the 400/4 is just a wee bit small for me. I'll be looking to move up to a 750 when I can.

If nothing else, you'll find that these guys and gals on the boards are a lot of fun to hang out with.

Here's to you... Cheers.

BR,
Chris

Nah, I'm only 5 foot 7 with a 30 inch inseam and I ride a 750 with little problem.  True I can't plant both heels on the ground at the same time, but short people can ride big bikes just fine, if they went to :)

Saw a cute little gal no more than 5ft tall on a CBR1000RR couple weeks ago. I've never seen anybody put their feet into a ballet pose to keep the bike up. She rode it like a pro though!

It is a pretty bad ass looking trail bike. I own a Zuma so I might end up with the 90 first to learn how to shift and to have a good commuter bike for rain and snow conditions in winter and some light off road riding. Plus you can nab one pretty cheap.
