1980 Honda NC50 Express
« on: June 29, 2008, 01:55:32 PM »
Ok, not sure if this is the right spot for this or not.

My wife is getting interested in riding and so, we will start off small.

Still a honda.

Picked up a moped, it may need a stator, PO doesn't know for sure.

I've goggled and ebayed and may have a stator in a few minutes.

Anyone got experience with these? Any good links or parts sources?

TIA,

Alan

Post a pic, if its the same as the UK one it will drag 17 stone arround at 29 mph but wont do much more unless its down hill with a following gale then 31mph,

Need clean exhaust(Internal that is) if its the two stroke one and you will need a piston kit at a phenominal mileage, unless you forget the oil then sooner.

exhaust has to come off to remove rear wheel which can sieze on the spline and make it a real swine,

Brake cables sieze with age but normaly a good little bike.

In UK it was classed as a "Moped" and could therefore be used/abused by 16 yr olds----OK the boys didnt like em but some of them grils shure trashed em well.

Serviced and pdi'd hundreds and dont remember a major problem with any of em, but carry a spare plug and spanner as the kickstart just winds up a spring that is released when you pull in the rear brake lever so you only get 3 "duffs" for it to start

Not ours, but the same as (seat is black and white, not brown and white...) . I'm lazy right now...

New tire end of last season. Rear basket needs to be re-attached. In pretty good shape and cheap enough. PO said it needs a stator or magneto (he couldn't remember which).

Will attempt to turn over, but not go.

Thats the one, Try a new plug first and disconnect the ignition switch block as all the switch does is "ground" the ignition to earth to stop spark. Never had any electrics go bad on one, cant even remember if there were contacts inside the flywheel! do know flashers wont unless battery is fully charged and you also rev the nuts off it

I have one. Couldn't get it to run until I knocked some crap loose in the muffler. Run mine without a battery but it blows the headlight and taillight soon after. I don't ride mine on the road so it makes little difference.

Yup, without a good battery (check fluid regularly -they boil it off) the lights voltage climbs real high and blows bulbs. Lucas used to make a thing called a "Clipper" diode but havent seen one for many a decade.

Now if you can get the option acessory front basket to hang on there it will be a real "babe"

Ture enough. My wife already mentioned there is no front basket. I've been searching ebay, but haven't had much luck there either.

It was an optional acessory which, to be honest, was overpriced and did not sell well considering the easy adaptability of the "supermarket" wire basket so you may find it difficult to find one, If you really want one i will try in UK for you but the shipping would be a killer! Seriously there were 1,000's of them over here so if you cant find parts PM me and i will search here for you

Ok, so the other parts bike (running, needs some carbwork...) is a Hobbit.

With scooter sales up around here and the price, I'll still get it.
