TUBE OR TUBELESS-WHAT TO DO...
« on: July 01, 2008, 05:31:30 AM »
I am having tires put on today and my mechanic says he has NEVER in 30
years put tubes on with the Dunlop K627
and matching front dunlop tires on spoked rims of a CB 750K (1978).

It does say on the tag REAR TUBELESS.

I keep reading how people are using tubes on these old spoke rimmed bikes.

He is a Honda certified mechanic and I have never had a problem with his
work BUT I am curious.

Please help ASAP!

I used tubes (and new rim strips that you'll need BTW) w/my new tubeless Dunlops. No problems. Honda shop too.

You have to use tubes on these spoked rims if you plan on inflating the tires.  The rims aren't even close to being air tight.

The rims on these bikes aren't made for tubeless tires.  You can use them as long as you use a tube also.

Also, you will find MANY mechanics that know little about these bikes let alone will be willing to work on them. Always remember, there is a ME in MEchainc. ;D

Time to get a new mechanic.

Honda certified must mean he and/or his employer stands behind his work.  Ask him for an agreement that he'll install the tubes for free if the tubeless route doesn't work....and remind him that having to inflate tyres before every ride doesn't count as a workable solution.
