Lawrence of Arabia
« on: October 05, 2005, 07:53:41 PM »
I found several letters of TE Lawrence at the Brough Superior site http://www.dropbears.com/m/models/brough/index.html and I particularly enjoyed reading "The Road". I think it's exhiliarating. But the letter is excerpted and I think there is a great deal more. I first found this letter buried in the back of a "Cycle World" from the early 70's with a gold CB500 on the cover. I saved the mag for a long time but now I'm afraid it is gone. Can anybody help me find this letter/article or put it up here for all to read?

I'd think a Google search might turn it up...

I got 373000 hits in 0.22 seconds when I did my search. (Pete Rose, Ty Cobb, take a seat) The Dropbears site was the best I could find. I went to the public library and found that our copy of "The Seven Pillars..." is out/gone. I also found a few things at Google that I wasn't looking for. What I was hoping for was: either there is a CB500 collector out there with the magazine, or maybe an Englishman who knows a lot more about Lawrence than I do.

"Boa is a top-gear machine, as sweet in that as most single-cylinders in middle.  I chug lordlily past the guard-room and through the speed limit at no more than sixteen.  Round the bend, past the farm, and the way straightens.  Now for it.  The engine's final development is fifty-two horsepower.  A miracle that all this docile strength waits behind one tiny lever for the pleasure of my hand."

The Rolls Royce of Motorcycles.

Isn't Rolls owned by Volkswagen now? T.E. Lawrence was an interesting character, a rampant homosexual and if not for his "unfortunate accident" may well have been "fast tracked" to a senior political position by his influential financial backers. An enigma wrapped in a mystery, for sure. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I bump into a guy at bike shows from time to time who collects Broughs (and MV Agustas and )......he says when he finds them for sale he just buys it......I think he may have a Lawrence one (or two)...nice for some!
In the UK anything over 40 years old only needs insurance and Fuel.
