  On June 20, 1868, a proclamation signed by the Governor General, Lord Monck, called upon all Her Majesty's loving subjects throughout Canada to join in the celebration of the anniversary of the formation of the union of the British North America provinces in a federation under the name of Canada on July 1st.

  The July 1 holiday was established by statute in 1879, under the name Dominion Day.
 
 Dominion Day was renamed Canada Day in 1983.

Happy Canada Day!  I took my K5 out for a holiday spin today but there's a guy in my town that was celebrating a couple of days early...

A 20-year-old Timmins man was arrested and charged with impaired driving early Sunday morning after he crashed his snowmachine into a fence.

At around 2 a. m. the man hit a fence on McLean Drive near Laforest Road.

He was rushed to Timmins and District Hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police later arrested the man in hospital and charged him with impaired driving.

now that reminds me of an old joke i seen..it was the north american map and it had the saying "If this was prison you would be our #$%*" (obviously canada talkin to america lol)
