I want to put the carbs back on this week as they are both busy I have missed enought of the riding season already.....how long for a first timer put the carbs back on and level of difficulty was just going to use the clymer manual. 1980 cb650

The very first time I r&r'd carbs on my 81 650 I took have the bike apart to get thecarbsout. Sinc then I figured out how to do it without removing anything but the carbs, and it just takes a few minutes.

I can't say how difficult or how long it takes since I don't know what all you did to get the carbs off. Also, if you weren't there when your day took the carbies off it'll take longer to put them back on since you'll have to figure out what he did and what order he did it all.
No matter how fast or how far I rode, I couldn't leave her memory behind.

the way i do it on my 1980 650 is this
-i leave the rubber intakes off(from carbs to head)
-slide carbs in from left side for 1/4 way in
-hook up the trottle and choke
-slide carbs in all the way
-hook them into the airfilter box(all 4,double check if they all go over the carb, instead of folding into carb)

-spray wd40 or silicon on the rubber intakes(just the part where it slides on head and carbs
-if you leave the carbs tilted down abit, you can then pop the rubber intakes onto the carbs
-push back on carbs and tilt up wards,so they line up with the head
-push and wiggle forward till all carbs rubbers slide over head
-tighten all the clamps(if you didnt forget to put them on first)
-done....

make sure the srew heads from the clamps point the right way when you put them on,the left 2 all pointing to left, right 2 all pointing to right..

give yourself time,it can take a few minutes before you got it right, gets easier over time... ;D ;D

I do the same as martino, but I leave the intake boots on. Slip the carbs in the airbox boots, pull back as much as possible, and rotate up to get the carbs in the intake boots.  And unbolt the airbox so you can pull it back to make a bit more room.

If you pull the air box back (bungie/ratchet strap) you have a little more room. Be patient it is a #$%* the first time but it gets easier.

Brilliant explanation martino, might keep that for reference. ;D
One step I would add is once you are all lined up and everything looks good apart from the fact that the carbs wont slide any further forward, get a nice chunk of solid wood and a large hammer (seriously) and rap it all home by only using the wood on the carb shoulders.
That's the sticky out bit on the end of the bracket that holds all the carbs together.
This worked great for me on my 79 cb650 and did no damage but you do need to make sure everything else is lined up and it's just a matter of getting that last bit home.
I have heard of people on here using a decent set of wood clamps, one on either side of the carbs (again using the shoulder of the bracket) and clamped to the front of the motor but you gotta have pretty long clamps.
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!
