Head paint removing issue
« on: July 05, 2008, 08:22:24 AM »
I have stripped the old paint from me engine cases and jugs with Tal Strip. Did a great job almost instant in some places. But I noticed on the head, the striiping seemed to have little effect on this area, especially on the top nea the valve cover. Is this different in some way? Should i try a different type of stripper?

Also I have been removing the famed white chalky aluminum corrison from the fins for the past day and a half with a scotch brite pad, this sucks.

For cleaning between the fins, I took and old sock and cut some strips from it.  I then folded these over the end of a paint stir stick.  THEN I folded a strip of 400g sandpaper over the whole thing.  Was great for reaching between fins and knocking out the remaining crap.

This worked pretty well for me.

As far as the stripper being ineffective on some areas, try roughing the area up with some paper to cut part-way into the paint, this should help the stripper penetrate these areas.

Sorry, no magic cure here short of media blasting.  Elbow grease is the order of the day.

I think Tal Strip sucks personally - I've had better luck with the regular aerosol Zip Strip (yellow & black can?) from the local hardware. I actually only use Wurth Brand Paint Stripper - best ever hands down. Trust me... I did not receive a thank you letter from Mother Nature after all of the times I've used paint stripper in my life. Seems I've been f'd in the a a few times by Tal Strip.
