Does anyone know much about CZs?
« on: August 02, 2008, 05:17:16 PM »
I have a limited knowlage of the bikes from what i have learned from Carver but it isnt much. Actually i probably know more about Jawas then CZs due to this and that isnt saying much. Basicly i have enough info to ID certian models such as the coffin tank enduros and the Yellow Tank motocross bikes since he had one of the Yellow tanks and two of the coffin tanks. But this thread revolves around the yellow tank bike because there is a very good chance i may be its new owner. This bike was owned by my father years ago and carver bought it off of him. Now that they are both gone i do not want to see this bike go to the scrap heap. I find out on tuesday if im to be the new owner or not. The bike in question is a 1971 CZ 125 cc Moto-Cross also known as a Yellow tank. I cant seem to find pics of actual 125s but CZ was known for using many different engines in the same chassis and body work. Due to this i can get away with using this pic as an example of what the bike should look like when restored.

The bike in the pic is a 1972 CZ 380 Moto-Cross. It is also a Yellow tank model but the Yellow tanks started with the 125 the year before.

Any info on this bike is greatfully welcomed. If i embark on this project its because of sentimental value mostly. Once the bike is complete it will not sit idle...it will see just as much use as my VF750.

I don't know much, other than I want one badly lol. I love the CZ's! The only thing I want more is an old Hercules/DKW two stroker. I have a friend that used to be into them big time, i'll get in touch with him today and get back to you on any resources or info he might still be into.

get ahold to bill440cars.

I don't know as much about those models, I'm more knowledged on the 50's & early 60's. I DO have a 74' CZ175 and the engine looks similar to that one though. I don't have any books on those YET, but will see what I can find, soon as I can, but I'm kinda busy for a good part of the time lately.

I've got some old factory service and parts manuals for them up to the early 60's. I've even got a manual on the Jawa 500 OHC Single. I would like to get my hands on one of those. ;)

Sorry, no dice...he's gonna see what he can find again for me. He got out of them I guess but seems to think he can still find some good resources.
