If your talking about actually in downtown New Orleans, doesn't sound promising. No one has mentioned it yet, guess they wouldn't since they are still rescueing and evacuating, but I wouldn't be surprised if the 80% of the city they said is flooded doesn't end up a total loss. Even if they can stop the flooding, it will take months to pump it out and the structures will be.. well useless. Bad situation, very bad.  :( :(

Bud posted a message to the SOHC/4 mailing list on Sunday:

"I bugged out to my sister's at Pensacola.  Yeterday, we winched 4 bikes up
to the 2nd floor of my warehouse, and hung 3 more in rafters.  Thoes in the
rafters are 5' off the floor, those on the 2nd floor are 18'."

He also posted again yesterday.  Looks like he has no information about whether his home has been affected by the flooding.

It looks like it`ll be weeks before they can pump all of the water out. Bud has posted in the Yahoo groups :

From the messages he posted on the mailing list:

His home's location is four blocks from the Mississippi river which puts his place in one of the higher elevated positions in the "Bowl" of New Orleans.  His house may well be dry.  Unfortunately, the dry homes are also popular targets for roving looters.  What Mother nature may have spared, human nature may destroy.

I wish the best for him.

Sorry guys, but I took the liberty of clearing out the off-topic chattter so we could get back to Bud's plight - as well as the plight of other known and unknown SOHC/4 members in New Orleans.

I will pass along a post made to the SOHC/4 mailing list this morning.  Please contact Kevin if you have any questions regarding this matter.

While we're all hopeful Bud's building survived the initial storm winds and we're pretty sure it is above water, there will be a long tough period ahead as N.O. struggles back to its feet.  Thankfully Bud is alive and well, and should eventually be able to go back and assess what the future holds.

This list is a powerful brotherhood and one of our members has been victim of unfortunate circumstances.  Some of us are close personal friends of Bud, and have ridden with him on the street and the racetrack, partied on Bourbon street and shared some good times.  I for one want to do what I can to give our SOHC brother a little cushion to help ease the chore of getting
his bikes (and life) back on track.

Members, I'll act as a clearinghouse.  My mailing address is below, and my PayPal account uses this e-mail address: kthunter01@sbcglobal.net   Note: I'll cover the PayPal commission percentage, so your full donation amounts
will be passed on to Bud.

Bud, if you're reading this and are uncomfortable with the idea of some of us donating a few bucks, let it go......you don't have a vote in the matter.  If it turns out to be more $ than you need, set it aside for the 2006 SOHC/4 Mardi Gras celebration, and we'll come help you "liquidate" the funds!

Hey Kids! You guys do not know how much this means to Bud. I spoke with him this morning and he was making trips to the bank and the IRS in hopes of getting some finances secured. He is ok and sheparding two friends, one who was to attend Tulane, in Pensacola. The area around his place as far as we can tell is dry. I did have a co-worker go to N.O. to retrieve some family and he said the area has trees down and some wind damage. You cannot get around on the blocked roads. We have no Idea if he has a roof, and that is the main concern. There are rumors of his heading to Birmingham this weekend, but that depends on what gets done today. Keep the positive vibe champs, this is having a huge ripple effect throughout the area and we are seeing just the first waves. We need to do what ever we can to help our fellow man and I know we are off to a good start. It is going to be one long road trip. I will post what i find out. Be good Be safe Be respectful. Leeth

more news from the front. None of the satelite photos show his place. He is heading to the Auburn/ GaTech game Saturday thanks to a gift of tickets. He will be in town Sun and Mon for sure. May do some wrenching and luckily I do have a bike for him to perform therapy on. He is in amazing spirits for the situation. We may have to march on N.O. gentlemen. Keep your wits about ya. G

...He is ok and sheparding two friends, one who was to attend Tulane,...

side note: the local University (Virginia Tech) posted this notice:
http://www.vtnews.vt.edu/story.php?relyear=2005&itemno=933
I think other Universities may be doing this as well.

If the "one who was to attend Tulane" is intersted in VT, I have a spare room that is theirs to use as a base of operations until they get sorted locally.  They will be sharing a roof with myself, my wife, and two cats.  Reply direct.

I've been in touch with Bud on a fairly regular basis since the initial evacuation.  We have now found satellite and aerial digital photographic images that show his building relatively well.  It is definitely still standing and outside the flood zone, so things are very hopeful.  Officials in neighboring Jefferson Parish (west of Orleans Parish where Bud lives) are going to start allowing citizens to return during curfew hours to retrieve belongings and secure their residences.  While we're not sure if or when this might be allowed in his area, we're trying to plan the logistics of how to evac some of the more important bikes in his stable.  Anyone within a few hours with a trailer and some storage space?

Hey Guys,
As you can tell, I don't hang out on this board much, rather I like the old email list better.  Be that is may, I am in Birmingham at my mom's, we made it in yesterday afternoon.  We still don't have any one thats been able to get by the building, but the new aerial images Kevin has provided look pretty good.  We are all hopeful.  The woman I live with, Rexx (family nickname) is currently in Amsterdam until mid Oct.  She too feels "groundless".  I hauled out her important paperwork and pictures, but everything else is still in the building (I hope).  We both go through periods of feeling helpless and down.  I talked to her two days ago for 20 minutes, it was good to hear her voice, I miss her terribly, she's the most important person in my life.  We'll do whatever needs to happen.
After talking a few minutes ago with a pal in the FBI in New Orleans, we may be able to get into Orleans Parish to gather belongings soon.  Jefferson Parish (the parish next to Orleans) is letting people in tomorrow.  When we can get it, Kevin in Houston and I are going to roll in with whatever equipment we can put together (trucks, trailers, generators - to open the electric door) and snag everything equipment wise and leave the rest.  It will be an day of intese driving and work, but having great friends like Kevin makes it a lot easier!  Thank you to everyone on this list, its a wonderful feeling to know I have good friends all over the world - some I've met and riden with, some I haven't even met any where but on this list.
  Thanks for the positive thoughts!

Bud in Birmingham, for now
