Windjammer for CB750K
« on: July 04, 2008, 07:17:07 AM »
I have my 78 CB750K and was wondering about putting a Vetter Windjammer fairing on it. I was wondering about a fairing that fits a 1981 goldwing. A guy has a full one on craigslist for $150. Does anybody know about interchangeability with these fairings?

The fairing will fit any vintage bike, it's the mounting bracket that differs. The mounting bracket from a Goldwing will not fit a CB750. A brascket from a pre-1977 CB750 will not fit a 1978. Check fitment on the Vetter site, http://craigvetter.com/. And, unless by a full one, you mean a Vetter fairing, mounting bracket, saddle bags with mounting brackets and a trunk, then I think $150 plus shipping is way too high. You should be able to pick one up locally for $50 or less. I think I have three of them out in the shed right now and two others on a couple of my riders.

Thanks Patrick. I am still not fully decided on doing it. Click on my gallery in my signature and tell me if you think it would look good. Maybe with a repaint to match my bike. If I decide to maybe I could take one of those in your storage off your hands... :)

The next time you are in or through Austin with a vehicle big enough to carry one, let me know and I'll give you one of them. They will need to be painted, but they are otherwise in good shape.

I like the Vetters I have on my bikes, but I don't know when or if I will use the extra ones. The was a period where they just kind of found me and I went from none to five in a very short period of time. If you want to save the gas or won't have another reason to be in Austin for a while, check Craigslist in DFW. They pop up on Austin Craigslist all the time.

Thanks Patrick, I appreciate the offer. I have never been to Austin but have been wanting to visit. Its about a 4 hour trip from Sherman Tx. I did see that fairing on craigslist in Dallas. Now I wonder how big a vehicle it would take or maybe I should say what are the measurements on one of those. I have an 88 Suburban that would not have a problem but I have that up for sale on craigslist right now. My wifes 2001 Ford Focus has a pretty big trunk and the rear seats fold down, its a lot bigger than my Seville SLS. Might be able to spend some time in Austin, spend the night and check the sites give ya visit.

If you in or through Austin on you bike we can take a ride out in the Hill Country. It's real pretty and has some nice riding roads. BTW, your focus will haul the fairing, I expect.

Even though I've been living in Texas only 8 years I have been to Canyon Lake and the Guadalupe river and down to San Antonio a couple times. Yes the hill country is nice

one of these days, we Texas folks need to get together for a ride.  Maybe a camping trip out in the hill country.  I think i could fit everything I need in a backpack.

I usually can fit everything I need for camping in my 28-foot fifth wheel trailer....

The bike I need to ride behind it.

I think meeting of the Texas SOHCers would be a great idea. We should pick a date and place and make it happen. We could even invite folks who want to make the ride from elsewhere. I think it would be cool to put some actual faces with the signatures.

Vetters are cool and work great. I have the extra tall shield on mine. I took it off though cause I wanted better cornering. I had to fix mine as the P O was a drinker and crashed once and cracked the right side up. So hotcha glue and new trim and it looks pretty good. I would sell mine to you but I can't beat patrick!

I picked up two Vetters at a yardsale for $10. Just a little rough, and have mounts only for a Goldwing, I need a mount for a 750-4.

yeah Patrick, that would be cool to get together sometime. Maybe in a couple/few months...Hell I don't even go outside much when its hot. I also need to figure out a custom pillion seat or buy my wife a bike. She has never drove one before but has shown interest. I think it best to start with something small because she is 5' 1" then something that small to start with wouldn't be all that comfortable for long over the road trips. And as far as the pillion, I have a cut down honda seat made single and a harley rear fender. I think customizing that will be a small chanllenge also.
