HEADLIGHT CB550 K3 US/CANADIAN
« on: July 04, 2013, 09:22:40 AM »
Hi everyone  please can you help.

I have a 1978 cb550 k3  uk bike   frame and engine,   and a full wiring harness and electric plate and switchegears from a us/Canadian bike.
at the moment I have no ignition switch/key  no lights etc.  I have checked all the wires for continuity and they are all fine.  I have the Ignition wire plug jumped at the moment to give me power to everything.  I have the tail lights all working. using a test lamp.

now to the front.   I have flashers working  but will not flash.   think relay is faulty  (there is continuity on the grey and black. but nothing at relay)  running lights light up  again using test lamp.
But  I can not get the hi/low to work using test lamp.. on the blue wire or white wire  all the fuses are all okay as well

both switchgears are working fine   left hand one    (horn.  left/right turn  hi/low beam    right hand switch  kill/run  start

there is no winker buzzer attached.  but the blue brown has power.   should this also be plugged into Black??????

any help would be appreciated/

There are 2 earth points (grounds to our american cousins) one is the big wire direct from the battery to the rh rear engine mount--THIS NEEDS THE PAINT REMOVING ON BOTH SIDES WHERE THE BIG BOLT GOES THROUGH

The other is up by the coils which also needs the paint removing.

If you do not remove the paint on the engine bracket all the starter current goes via the small wire at the coils and fries the loom releasing the impossible to replace smoke

thanks for the info  would that be on the clutch cable mounting plate where it bolts to the frame and engine.
if so I will have to remove paint from the engine in that location as well  as the motor has also had new paint

Dhoooooooo..

I am not a dick head really!!!!!!!!

Yup thats the one, you aint the first and you only have to remove engine paint on the end of the boss where the bracket touches ---and BOTH sides of the bracket  so the ring end of the heavy duty cable has good contact right through to the alloy casing.

PS thats why the new brackets come without paint in that area!! Looks odd when you buy one
