I don't know... any thoughts on fair market value?

Yea, I think $20 is fair.  I'm on my way over.  ;D

All kidding aside, it's hard to say.  One way to find out is to list it on ebay with a $100,000 reserve.  It's cheaper then an appraiser.  ;)

Yes, beautiful bike and very pretty girl you have there.  She has to be a good  sport to get on the bike and let you post all those pics of her.  Best of luck to both of you and I hope you have a great wedding day.  Just be careful not to get her wedding dress caught in the chain... ;D

It's worth 5-6.5 grand IF you find the right buyer IMO. It's a beautiful bike, but thats just what I think it will bring if you sell it.

I agree. At this point, it's a polygamous marriage (you, the girl, AND the bike).  ;D

Save it for the grandchildren that your future mother-in-law will inevitably hassle you about. "Hurry up and pump out some kids before I get too old!" etc. ;)

Too late... we already have a 2-1/2 year old. One thing to remember here: I enjoy the restoration work most (I know that sounds stupid) - so I'll have another project in the works within a few months guaranteed. What I really need/want is a 750 - and I already have an idea in mind.

As far as the "Old School" thing goes, her dad is an out-of-work aviation designer & is struggling to pay the mortgage. My parents are retired & helping out as much as possible. Believe me, even on a shoe string budget, weddings aren't cheap - and we're left footing 90% of the bill. Besides, she's a princess and has to have her wedding - who am I to agrue? I'm 38 - she's 25, and probably the coolest chick I've ever met. They'll be more bikes I'm sure.

Trust me... once I get my next 750 project going, it will make this bike look like a turd. Ok... maybe not - but it will be badass nonetheless.

Beautiful bike.  Beautiful girl.  Do what you think is right.  Just know that you will always remember that bike as you do your children...with fondness, and when they leave, with emptiness and a little regret.

My first thought was "sell a nice bike that can give good service for the forseeable future to partly finance an expensive wedding ceremony that most people will have forgotten about in a week - what a bad idea."

My second thought was "Oops, none of my business."

My niece's wedding 2 years ago cost over $20,000.  They wish they had that money now.

Ooops, still none of my business. ;D

Chopstar, you did a nice job on that bike, unfortuantely you are going to have to advertise it outside of MI to get what its worth, our state is in a heck of a position when it comes to selling anything.  I ma in SE MI also, when you are ready for that 750, shoot me a note, seems I can find them to buy easier than I can sell them when done, and I'd be happy to share some info with you.  contact info is in my bio.

Yes...  that's true. We'll see what happens I guess. I do have an out of state member from this site that is interested, so you may have a point. I've owned a couple early 750s in the past, so I'm looking foward to tearing into one again - keep me posted if you see any come up around here.

To finally end all of the "don't sell for a wedding" talk - at this point, we don't even know if we can pull off the $$$ for the food & alcohol - let alone a ton of other details. It's just bad timing for getting any solid parental assistance - we're not looking at a $20K budget either - $5000 tops! We've been together almost 4 years, but we just planned the wedding date a few months ago. Rush, rush, rush... and little cash because of the short term planning. As it stands right know, we don't have a dime for the honeymoon. <<<End Rant>>>  ;D

  • I know the pieces fit...
I love the bike, and compliments on the seat. It looks made for one, but it can seat two because its all cushioned right? That was a good idea.

I got a question 'bout the fork seal covers, are they aftermarket also? I need fork boots for my 550, but I'd almost rather do what you did. Unfortunetly there is a big scrape/rust spot where the factory fork boots would cover. So, I think I might stick with stock, but I'd like to know where you got em anyway  ;)

My final post of pics for the bike. Just nominated for BOTM and it looks like the bike is sold to fellow SOHC4 member LoudPipe.

I thoroughly enjoyed the restoration and I couldn't have done it without all of you guys & this awesome website. I'm not going anywhere (hope to p/u my next SOHC project real soon) but I wanted to thank everyone for contributing to the best frickin' motorcycle forum on earth - and I mean that seriously. There's no way I could have pulled this off without sohc4.net - kudos to all!!!

Still keeping my fingers crossed for August Bike of the Month ;D - that would make for a fitting depature (for the bike that is).

Nice addition to the back seat area. The bike looks great. Good luck with the sale, the wedding,  your new life together with your bride, and of course your next SOHC4 ride.
