Pirelli Sport Demon - NICE TIRES
« on: August 31, 2005, 07:42:47 AM »
Just letting people know that the Pirelli Sport Demon's on my CB550F are very very nice.  They handle very well and stick like glue.  I'm running stock sizes - 110 rear 100 front.  I got a good deal on them - CAD$310 installed - I rode in and rode out an hour later with new rim strips, tubes, rim locks and tires.

Sky,

You are not making an even comparison.

Even though the tires are probably of different performance levels (I'm not familiar with Pirelli Motorcycle Tires - but I have had a bunch of their car products) you are looking at the cost of 2 tires, only.
Tintin has included 2 tires with tubes and rim strips. I don't know why he mentions rim locks, I have not seen them used on a CB500 or 550. Also it seems that he is including labor to mount and (hopefully) balance. Another thing to consider is the currency adjustment as the Canadian $ is not equivalent to the greenback although with the help of our politicians, it is closing fast. Additionally there are more taxes on this type of purchase in Canada.
I think that there may even a VAT on tires, but not sure. Is that correct TinTin?
Anyway seems like a pretty good deal.

Every spring I install a new Spitfire rear; I bring in the rim with the old rubber on it. The shop installs the new tire on rim, balances it and throws away the old tire for $142 Canadian play money.
If it's worth doing at all it's worth over-doing.

Yes, that's the price of both tires, tubes etc. installed and balanced.  I rode in, they took the wheels off, did the tire work and remounted.

I don't even know what rim locks are - they mentioned them and they were a few bucks each.  Might not even be on the bike.  Who knows.

CAD$310 = US$230 or so.  The tires alone were about $270 of the total.  Turns out they kind of 'forgot' to charge me the labour  ;D  I scooted out of there as quick as I could when I realized I was saving the $70 installation fee.

I thought it sounded like a deal that was a little too good to be true.
They probably "noticed" it later! ;) ;D
