Battery
« on: July 05, 2008, 09:27:13 PM »
I purchased a new battery today and 1A trickle charger. It was one of the "add your own acid" type of set ups. This was the first time I had done this, I filled it to the upper fill line.... Waited an hour and a half... tapped/rocked out air bubbles..... charged it for 7 hours (as per instructions)... now the fluid is above the upper fill line?

Should I, when I return to it tomarrow.. suck out the extra fluid down to the upper fill line? Lower fill line?

any help is appreciated

Did it build up any pressure inside?  Were the vents plugged or closed while it was charging?

Did you pull the vent plug off?

Don't worry about it, any excess will come out the overflow tube when it's on the bike - just make sure the tube is not venting over part of the bike
I may be telling you what you already know but:
no smoking of flames of any kind around battery whist charging (explosive gas)
make sure caps are off while charging - be sure - put them to the side

By some bizarre trick of chemistry the acid level always rises a bit after charging. Some of it's due to tiny bubbles attached to the plates, but even after vigorous shaking I always see a slightly higher level after charging.
