My CB750 K4 project bike. Now what!?
« on: July 05, 2008, 01:41:18 PM »
Here is my 1974 CB750 K4 project bike.  This will be my first attempt at a rebuild.  Kinda scary but it should be a lot of fun.

The bike has been sitting for several years.  The PO told me it was running but did backfire a bit at the time he stopped riding it.  I assume the first thing I should do is pull the carbs and give them a good cleaning/rebuild.

I will have a lot of questions.  I look forward to the expert advice that I have seen posted on this forum.

what do you mean with rebuilding..???
-get her to run good and drive it
-strip her down to the last bolt and rebuild from the ground up

first i would do a general tuneup, points, valves, carbs sync. etc.

My thought was to get it running and check things out to see what needs to be done.  I suspect it might have to be taken all the way down but I don't know that for sure.

Hey, if you wanna get rid of that sissy bar/luggage rack combo I would be very interested.

Nice! just get it running and ride it, then do more in the winter if you still think you have to.

I agree.  Do what needs to be done to have a safe, running bike and leave the cosmetic work to be done during less than ideal weather.  That's my plan for the summer.   ;D

Wow! That seat is bigger than my whole bike!  :D

Seriously though - I'd try to find a set of stock forks, a stocker seat & some new bars (maybe a $100 investment) - riding that in its current configuration looks like it would be a #$%*. I was born in 1970, but I never learned to ride a bike like that. #$%*in'!!!

+1 on doing what needs to be done safety wise + basic tune-up/maintenance stuff first.

Thanks for the comments.  It sounds like a good plan to do only what is necessary at this point.  I believe I should clean the carbs, do a tune up and see if I can get it going.  I'm not in any hurry to get it looking great right now.

I really do want to do something with those front forks.  They make the bike a little too tall for me.  Also, the exhaust does not fit.  I have interference with the center stand.  And, there are no baffles in the pipes.
