Part of it is Volkswagenese. The old VW buses with 2 front windshields made from the 1949-1967 are splittys. I'm guessing the buses with the big single from 1968-1979 are the fat chicks.
There were 3 rows of seats available in the "Deluxe" passenger VW's a rear full bench, a middle full bench and a front full bench. These would accommodate 9 passengers. There were also versions that had a full bench in the rear, a 2 person middle seat and individual driver and passenger seats in the front so you could walk through from the front to the back. The small middle seats are rare since I guess they got pitched(thrown in the skip to you English folks -is that the right translation?) to add shag carpet and pillows.
Other than that, it's pretty much just add a U into word like neighbor and color and you'll be okay for American to English and understand that we took a syllable out of aluminum.
Edited to add: CBGhia, it's from a splitty. I wish I could go back in time to the yard where I got that seat. There was a high roof ambulance, a barn door panel van, and about 30 other cool old slightly less special buses.
