Actually Scott, Essex had quite a few hits in the 70's and early 80's and featured on the late 70's musical "the war of the worlds"
Remember that one..?

I do have a foggy remembrance of War of the Worlds, but only because you mentioned it. Still, Essex was a bit of a flash-in-the pan, and the ending of Silver Dream Racer was terrible. It did have some redeeming moments, and Beau Bridges was fun to see in his younger days, before his appearances on My Name is Earl.

Wasn't there another one called Brown Bunny?

That one is more famous for the explicit knob job than for any motorcycle content. A truly bad movie.

I showed real road racing motorcycle and it showed a motorcycle on a dyno too.
It was very real about how racers really were in those times. Privateers roaming around
Not corporate teams with matching outfits.

It is a very bad piece of self-indulgence. Deadly dull. Hell, it even made blow jobs seem boring.

If you ever have the misfortune to find a copy of "Karate Warrior Two" in your travels, either run or watch it for a laugh.
My family were deeply into Karate when my kids were young and we hired that movie, it stank more than gorgonzolla cheese.
It was almost as bad as "Kill and Kill Again" or "A Time to Kill", two more totally forgettable movies (only saved by starring some of the most talented Karate Instructors of the time).

If anyone ever sees those last two vids I wouldn't mind buying htem. ;D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Saw "The Great Escape" when I was about 12.  Never even thought about it before that but at that moment I knew I had to have a motorcycle.  Funny how one little thing can change your whole life.
That's right Mark. I liked the Great Escape too, but the movie that really turned me on to motorcycles was On Any Sunday. In 1971 at 13 my best friend and I went to see it and I've loved motorcycles ever since. Watched it many, many times over the last 40 some years and never get tired of it. Steve Mcqueen put up the money for this film and was a excellent all round rider. But Malcom Smith was my hero in this movie. There wasn't anything he couldn't do on a motorcycle.

Since you brought up bad movies with some real road-racing scenes Lucky, have you seen Silver Dream Racer, starring David Essex? He was a one-hit-wonder in the '70s, with Rock On.

more than a one hit wonder over here , in fact hes still at it . i must admit i like silver dream racer as well . i bought one of the 500 suzukis from the film , it was the best bike i have ever owned and i still miss it to this day .

Well, I may have been a bit testy, as I had just seen Silver Dream Racer again a few days before I posted that. The movie did have some good points, but the ending was still terrible, IMHO. The shots of the dummy strapped to the bike at the crash scene at the end were poorly executed, to say the least. It should have been a happy ending: little guy wins against all odds, while having found love. Instead, he crashes and burns, literally, on the victory lap???
What other top 40 hits did he have, besides Rock On?

I think it was about what some young guys go through when they lose their first girl friend. They do not know what to do, they just keep looking for the Brown Bunny.

A great documentary we watched was "The Road Racers" about Frank Kennedy, Mervyn Robinson and Joey Dunlop.

I notice it's now paired with another movie "V Four Victory", so we'll have to check that out too.

I didn't see Girl on a Motorcycle mentioned yet.  Besides a hot girl in a leather jumpsuit with nothing underneath, I thought it was kind of stupid.

Anyone seen "On Any Sunday II?" Well don't, it fuc*ing sucks.  How the hell did everyone not feel ripped of watching that?  The video quality was so bad you couldn't see the guys facial features let alone anything else. >:(

Anyways, "Fastest" was a cool documentary about MotoGP riders, specifically Rossi.  Really got me interested in the sport.

I only saw one mention of the movie "One Week", it's really a very reasonably current good movie and a Norton is the co-star.

"Girl on a motorcycle" i think it was Marrianne Faithfull who ...erm...'starred' in this classic! She was Mick Jagger's latest conquest at the time.  The scene at the end where she gets a wee bit carried away is the only real reason to watch this cack.

Another brilliant low budget British film which i can't believe no one has mentioned yet is "I bought a vampire motorcycle". I wouldn't want to spoil it for you so you'll need to watch it yourselves.  ;D
