1978 CB550K Manual
« on: July 07, 2008, 02:16:43 PM »
Does anybody know whether Honda produced a shop manual specifically for the 78 CB550K?  I've seen the Clymers and Haynes and I have the 76-77 Shop Manual for the 550K plus the addendums, but is there one for the 78?

Thanks.

Anyone have a (really good) copy of just the '77/'78 addendum?   I have a REALLY nice original manual I bought a while back on feeBay, and plan on doing a high-quality .pdf scan of for all the CB500/550 folks here (and finally present a much better version than what is floating around, now). However, my manual only has the '77 addendum, as the latest.   :P

Yes, but you can download the PDF on site here.  Look in the manuals FAQ. ....I think.

The 77 K3 addendum is the last one produced, AFAIK.

Cheers,

Yes, I know that - that's what I was referring to as the manual(s) already floating around. However, their resolution / scan quality leaves a bit of room for improvement. I am planning on doing a REALLY high quality scan (read, LARGE file size and not broken up into a zillion pieces like on that Italian Honda fan site).

It sure would be nice to make out some of the finer details on the pictures in the manual, and what not.

Thanks for the info about the addendum - nice to know I have the full manual, already.

So, there is a 77/78 supplement out there?  Any idea how I can get it?

Bunny:  if you email or PM Glenn Stauffer, he will accept any hi-res files that you care to scan. He'll put them up on the server.

Agreed, the Italian site is low res.   Have you tried these sites?

Moto-Bunny, it would awesome to have those manuals in a resolution high enough that I can read them.  I am finding that my Clymers is woefully inadequate, and the manuals in the FAQ just aren't cutting it picture-wise.

I actually have quite a collection of CB500/550 manuals going on, that I need to scan and share with the community here.  ;D  I have bought several on feeBay as well as having found a couple in new stock my business partner has picked up at swap meets (for those of you not in the know, I am in the Automotive manual and literature business - see site link in my profile). I now have the OEM, Intertec (a couple different versions), Chiltons (2 versions), Clymer (like 4 different versions), Haynes (3 versions), and a couple of other manuals that cover many bikes but have SOHC Honda sections in them!

I have found with the Chiltons, Haynes, and Clymer manuals that the older versions can be MUCH better as they use actual photos and illustrations from Honda's manual, in them, to supplement their own illustrations. They all stopped doing this at some point in the late '70s and went to (often crappy) illustrations of their own - I think Honda must have finally told them to stop or something?  :P

Also, there is a kewl version of the Clymer manual (fourth edition - 1977) that has a section titled "Exclusive high performance secrets from Yoshima racing service" in it that has various "hop-up" tech tricks, that isn't in any other printing of that manual.

Two-Tired - thanks for the links! I was aware of the former (I don't like how the manuals are broken up into so many sections, though, just like at that Italian site - I just want it one big, high quality .pdf!) and it looks like I have to register or something, for the latter?
