70s era XS650 Tach ratio
« on: July 07, 2008, 02:49:07 PM »
Hi, does anyone know the tach ratio for a Yamaha XS650?  I've been shopping around for some mini gauges for my CB550 and its seems like the ones over at MikesXS.com are a good price.  I emailed them...but they were no help at all   ,thanks

These guages were mentioned before...They will not work with our CBs due to having an incompatable ratio. If i recall right it was Seawebs Tracy build thread this came up in since he was looking at them for his bike.

Yamaha's use a 1:5 ratio tach... your 550 uses a 1:7. You can get similar gauges from Cycle Re-Cycle, link below. I just got a tach from them for my 350F. They are a little more expensive... but the next best price to mikes. I got a speedo with indicator lights from mikes. Both Yamaha's and Honda's use 1:2 ratio speedo's.

Good luck.

Alrighty, Thanks for the input guys.  Though that site only had black face tachs.  I wonder if they can order white face ones.  I believe the gauges only light up around the face....so if I made my own white face I wouldnt have to worry about any translucent numbering, right?
