CB350 Transmission swap help

Well I cant my first gear and neutral to work in my 350 twin and have to decided to crack the case. I have tried everything else. I have a spare cb350 bottom end with a good trasmission and was planning on just ripping everything out of that engine and swapping it into the other engine. Has anyone done this before, have any tips/suggestions? Can I just remove everything from the one and put it straight into the other engine without a problem?

You can - and you can do it without removing the barrels if you're careful. Just one question - have you checked the wear on the gear selector location pin wheel at the side of the crank case? If this is worn badly, it will not help find first or neutral and is a much easier problem to fix (in frame). It's the sprung wheel on the lever that pulls the end of the selector barrel around when moving the shift pedal....

Can anyone provide what a nice, clean, unworn gear selector? When I tore my engine down I check that thing out and it looked fine, but what do I know? Where does it tend to wear out? I ask because I can easily shift into first neutral and then up to second but after that it feels the the fork and the wheel are not meshing up correctly as it won't go into forth.

The gear shift drums are heat treated and hardened so if you've got a worn shift drum it's most likely that teh rest of the engine is about to crumble into dust, barring any damage from major mechanical mishaps.

Main reason for poor selection if the selectors are not bent is the end of the shift drum where the selector arm engages and you have the positive neutral stop. All kinds of wear happens at this end with worn selector arms, washers and slop in the arms. Check all that out first - you can do it without splitting the cases and it's all cheap to replace from a  breaker if you need to. Good luck!  ;D

Actually I just found a good bottom end of a CL350 motor. It seems like it'll be easier to swap the cylinders and head from the bad tranny bike than to crack the case. I guess I'll find out tomorrow when I do it. Thanks for the help/suggestions.
