To buy or not to buy
« on: July 13, 2008, 07:43:44 AM »
Hey all - I'm looking for a cheap runner to use since it looks like I might not get my bike completed this season, and I stumbled on this little gem:

http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/mcy/751892405.html

It's an 1985 VF700, I already talked to the guy and he said all it needs is a carb cleaning and rear tire, and agreed to let it go for $1200. From the pictures it looks to be in great shape, and, truth be told, I even kinda like the paint on it. So, yea or nay?

If you can handle owning a bike that has interesting lil quirks like the Interceptors do. Whats the milage like on it? Hopefully its low enough that the cams have not been chewed up badly yet. The V4 bikes have a bit of a top end oiling issue that can be solved in a couple methods..the other main problems with them is that their cams can be soft depending on the year of VF it is. There are others who have imput on it. They are fun bikes to own but they do require some special treatment over other hondas due to the top end issues.
