Next project... Gimme some input w/trivia question
« on: July 09, 2008, 08:10:53 PM »
Couple of before and "what will be" shots.  For all you purists, she photographs much better than she is in person.  The rims were severly rusted and pitted on the insides as well as the fork tubes.  All 4 pipes, although they look pretty good up close are rusted through on the bottoms and insides along the seams.  JB weld will only hold up for so long.   So, the plan is to get some new rims, and spokes and wrap them up in the vintage Firestones.  New fork tubes and some custom fabricated exhaust using the existing headers which seem pretty solid.  I'll probably do a valve job (new guides etc) and put some new rings on it while it's out of the frame.  transmission & everything else seems solid & smooth.

After all the advice and help I've received here, she runs like a top.  Can't thank you guys here enough.

Please gimme opinions or suggestions on color etc.  Things I could try before I tear it down.  Here she is:

Here's one color option - flat titanium w/ graphics of some sort

Here's the other - supposed to be a flat metallic gold.

Stay tuned, I'm researching parts and hope to start soon.

**QUESTION -  If you had to guess, what tire & rim size would you gues these to be ?   Those firestones come in:  325-19 & 400-19
Rears are: 350-18, 400-18, 450-18  Most of these seem to have a "drop center ?  " styled rim ??
                      I think the 350-18 & 400-18 would fit the CB's stock rim....not 100% though.

No secret where i drew inspiration from.....

Only problem - all these are Japanes bikes.  Japanese website.  can't find any info in english.   Luckily, those tires are only available
in a few sizes....hopefully with some help, I can pinpoint the sizes

What's wrong with the sunburst orange she has now  :D
Nice solid looking rolling frame to start with anyway, I just love to see these old ladies of the highway restored or rebuilt to rideable specs anyway.
If the bike has been too badly abused I'm not adverse to seeing them cafe-ed or even chopped, as long as they are running they are not mouldering in some barn or under a flaming tree filling up with leaves and rusting into oblivion.
Best of luck with the new project.......Hush.

He rattle canned that orange on there a few weeks ago.  It looks good though.

Greenjeans,

I dig the first rendition.  It looks tuff.

I like that seat.  I'm more partial to the yellow or orange paint and I think it looks better with the stripe and Honda logo on it.  :)

Yep, the orange is growing on me.   Duplicolor has some spray paints that I used.  Metallflek ??    I sprayed a silver glitter base coat
followed by the paint.  Sprays like laquer - dries fast.   The metallic green looked like you could polish it.  Looked GREAT from pretty close up.
The orange didn't have as much gloss, but I ended up kinda liking it.  It's more of a semi gloss.   I'll do some more color options...

I still think that if you clear over that orange it will shine.   It looks great now though.

Off topic,   you gonna be around tomorow?  I was thinking of riding to work and was hoping to take a second and sych my carbs.

For sure the orange...like that old school look.  But you have to live with it.  Not a fan of the black at all.

I'm not sure about front wheel clearence but the only way you will get that fat on the rear is to go 16 inch.

They aren't as fat as they appear... they are just taller....the FATTEST size is not even 5" wide at it's widest...
Might be a bit dicey getting them in there height wise
