Sticky Choke
« on: July 09, 2008, 08:31:45 AM »
Did a search and couldn't find anything that helped. I have a 77 cb750k, and although the bike runs great, I've noticed that the choke is really tough to pull up, sometime to the point that I feel I might break it. Also, after the first pull it often only comes up about an inch before sticking, then you have to pull a second time to get it up the last 1/4".

I was thinking of using wd40 or a bit of grease on the part of the choke rod that protrudes up, but I was wondering if the sticking is occurring through the length of the cable and not just at the part that protrudes. Does the cable need to be lubed? How would I do that? Any other possible causes?

Thanks

Hey drdreas...
Check the friction ring below the choke knob...it there to set the tension to keep the choke from slipping back in when it's pulled out...I lubed my cable and it wouldn't stay choked...had to tighten the ring to get it to stay.
Just an Idea...still could be a binding cable ore choke mechanism on the carbs.
