Needing new Valve Cover for my 76 550!
« on: July 09, 2008, 01:23:48 AM »
So my 550F has the dreaded cam shaft gap issue. I happened across THIS one on ebay, but its off a 76 as well, and it doesn't look like the fixed one from 77-78.

My bike is running good now, and I really would hate to mess anything else up when riding it at higher RPM's. Does anybody have one of the newer ones they'd like to part with?

This is the kind of gap I'm dealing with:

personally, I would tap the head and make some screw in plugs to locate the rocker shaft, then cross drill he inside end o hold that steady.

By head you mean the top of the valve cover? Then drill a hold to lower the shaft back into place with a bolt or so? What do ya mean by cross drill the inside?

Sounds like an interesting idea, but if I can get a good one from somebody for a reasonable price, I'd rather save myself the time!

Doh, Yep, I meant the cam cover.
Cross drilling would be at 90 degrees to the rocker shaft, like the later models.
I've got the stuff to do it which is why I wouldn't bother to get a new cover.
Possibly get some different rocker shafts or just leave bolt heads exposed so it would look more like a CB350/400f when done
