my future granddaughter (due dec7th) very possibly might have something called trisome18 or edwards syndrome. what do you folks know about it? trying to get as informed as possible.

You need to look into the accuracy of the test used in the diagnosis. Don't take anything as fact until it is confirmed by multiple tests - my experience with pre-natal testing is that the early tests are hardly worth the bother except to suggest whether riskier testing is in order.

it was the ultrasound that showed dual cysts in the brain, katie is at 18 weeks now.

My very humble two cents; I'd go along with Glenn and feel it goes with any diagnosis of consequence, prenatal to senior citizen.

Theres a lot of wisdom on this site, try not to worry (i know, wasted words) but they cant be 100% sure at this point, once the baby is breathing and screaming they can do some real tests.
My thoughts are with you and yours mate.

Glenn is correct. It depends on who did the ultrasound and who interpreted the results. I would find the best people in SC and do it again. I had a friend who had two daughters, he was a real hardcore NY Italian and he NEEDED a boy. The ultrasound showed his wife was carrying a girl. "I been looking at these for 30 years, never been wrong yet." the Dr. said. My man ran around the yard with a rope looking for a strong branch so he could end it all. Well out popped a perfect baby boy. If you can miss a pee pee what else can you misread.

well celebrations are in order! the amnio tests showed that the baby is fine, new ultra sounds show the same thing. i have to believe that all the prayers and good thoughts from you folks, my second family, helped.

i never much cared about kids one way or the other, had a vasectomy at 21 so i wouldnt have kids in fact. maybe because i'm older and people change as they get older but i am actually excited about having a grand-baby. my step daughter is naming her after my mom in fact.

Good to hear. Your experience reflects our experience with the early tests regarding our 3 year old daughter. These early tests, for all their supposed value, sure put the parents through a lot of stress. My wife swears she wouldn't do it that way again and I kind of agree with her.

Again, I am very happy to hear the good news regarding your grandchild.
