stickers not sticking to clear paper
« on: July 11, 2008, 01:00:03 PM »
bought some stickers a while back to put on my side covers...they have clear plastic where the stickers are suppose to stick to then put the clear piece on whatever it is going on and then pull off and the sticker is left on...well i went to pull the clear stuff off got about halfway and the stickers are still on the backing ...is there anyone to free them up..maybe a hairdryer or something....just wonderded if anyone has come across this.

It sounds like you have clear transfer tape that has really low tack.  It's usually pretty thick stuff, with a sort of rough texture  Is that what you have?

At any rate, it may not have been properly burnished to activate the transfer tape's glue or the glue on the sticker may just be stronger.

It's a weird concept, but if you peel the backing paper off the transfer tape and sticker rather than try to peel the sticker and transfer tape off the backing paper, you'll probably get it.

I'd try that first and if it doesn't work, you should reburnish it.  It would be best if you have a squeegee for graphics, but a bondo spreader is close to what you want.  Just lay it out flat and sweep the squeegee over the transfer tape with some pressure.  Not a ton of pressure or you'll screw it up.

I'll take a picture to show you what I mean about peeling the backing paper off since it doesn't translate into words well.

Does it make sense to you?

Peeling off the backing paper. -Can have problems

Peeling the backing paper off the transfer taper and graphic.  -Alot less likely to have problems.

Well as I sell my own stickers I guess I should know. Look at the above photos and repeat the process of peeling back the backing paper (Second photo) BUT, fold it hard at first and keep it flat as you pull it back over the transfer tape. Even low tack transfer tape shoudl keep the stickers on board with this approach....
