I have a 1976 CB750K. The bike is leaking oil pretty badly from the shifter cover. It only leaks when the bike is on it's side stand. It only leaks after I've taken it out and run it up to 6 or 7k RPMs. Before I run it, it can sit on its sidestand and idle endlessly with no leaks. But after I run it, it starts to leak and won't stop unless I turn the engine off or put it on the center stand.
The leak is not coming from the shifter seal. It is not coming from the rubber gasket surrounding the wires coming from the alternator.
It appears to be coming from around the second screw up from the bottom on the alternator side.
I've put on a new gasket, tried it dry, tried it with permatex gasket maker (for soft gaskets) smeared thinly on both sides of the gasket. I've tried the permatex on just the engine faces with the gasket in between.
I accidently mixed my screws up. I've been looking at several parts fiches but it's hard to tell where they go. I think that one of the longest screws, 6mm x 55mm goes in this hole. Can anyone tell me the order and lengths of the screws and where they go? Also, what's the specific torque for these screws?
Help! The weather's perfect, and other than the leak, my bike is running perfectly! (for once!)
