I changed my oil and filter last night, and went for a nice long ride today, when I got back, I noticed an oil filter spring on the bench, I can't remember if the new filter from Honda came with a new spring or not. If it did, I'm thinking its in the bike and aok, if not I'm a dip#$%* and forgot. No leaks or anything. Does anyone remember if they come with a new spring?

Thanks

None of mine have come with a spring.
There should also be a flat washer as well, although it is not as important as the spring.
I would be pulling the filter out and refitting the spring before I rode again.

I've never bought one from Honda or anyone else that came with a spring.

Any ideas what damage I could have done if I did indeed ride it 80 miles w/o a spring?

I'm thinking oil could just by-pass the filter and no real damage done but I'm far from an expert...lots of those on here!!

Just checked, and indeed no spring was there. Whoops. Hopefully no serious repercussions. Once more, I learn to slow do and be methodical even on simple tasks.

Do not feel too bad
I bought my K0 in 2001 from a motorcycle shop in Farmington NM. The owner told me that they had serviced the bike with new points plate, oil/filter change, new tyres. A price was negotiated at $700 as they had not done the carbs($800 with carbs overhauled). As it was coming back to Sydney Australia, I knew it was going to be a while before I saw it and I decided I would do the carbs when it arrived.
They were honest and had done all of what they said, but I decided to change the oil anyway to be sure and of course, as most of us do, changed the filter as well .
As you have probably guessed ,they had left the spring out, but it was new oil and filter!!!!

How prices have changed in such a short time!!!!!

Yup even the priceist oil filters come sans spring!
Crack her open and put it back Zoo Mob, no harm done I'd say but long term the result would be different.
This case of L.O.B. (Left On Bench) may explain why my bike came without it's spring/spacer and washer!
I had to beg my local wrecker for one of each, luckily he's a good Honda enthusiast. ;D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!
