Carb Jetting on a 550?
« on: July 05, 2008, 08:17:06 PM »
I am currently putting my 1976 CB550F together I am running Emgo 35mm short stacks with the stock 4 into 1 header through a Emgo megaphone with removable baffle.  I live in  Southern Illinois so this will give everyone an altitude idea  Can anyone help me on what I will need to do to get it running correctly? Jetting??

"Yeah - you got to tear them apart to get to the needles to change the clip setting."  I read this earlier with someone jetting their carbs are they meaning needle jets?  I am new to this terminology. What are they meaning?

your in luck Reavis, I just tore apart my carbs (1976 CB550K) and am rebuilding them today / tomarrow, so I have pics :)
When they refer to the clip position they are refering to this piece

Which sits inside the throttle valve here (on the right side of pic)

The forth clip (notch) position from the top of the needle is the standard position for 550 carbs.

I am no expert / old timer  or guru for tuning so I will let someone else suggest settings for your situation, good luck

115 main jets. All other carb settings stock. This should be real close. Make sure float levels, idle mixture and synchronization are all correct. Also make sure point gap, ignition timing, valve clearance and cam chain are all adjusted properly.

Is that clip position also true for 77/78 carbs?
