starter button/kills switch
« on: September 02, 2005, 09:12:12 AM »
Hey, I'm needing some pointers here.  I've got a starter button with fraid wires and well, quit frankly, its usless
to fix on my own. the plastic assembly (inside) is badly melted.  I've been unable though to find any replacment parts or assembly kits.  Rather than going to honda, do any of you have a suggestion?  Honda is my last resort.  I've been online looking but seems this is a very rare part to find.

Partsnmore.com sells them. Not sure how they work with the starter safety switch system, but it's better than nothing... I wish they had a picture of it.

When Radio Shack had electronic parts and not just cell phones and imported toys, they had a little SPST push button switch that fit the hole and the space inside, and works great. You bypass the headlight cutout - that has never caused a starting problem for me. The Honda switch melts from having the headlight power through it all the time; once the switch contact gets a bit corroded it runs very hot and soon fails. Adding a headlight power relay solves that problem if you have (or get) a stock switch, and your headlight will be considerably brighter if you run a power wire for the lighting circuit to the relay straight from the main fuse. All the wiring - the headlight power goes through the ignition switch, many bullet connections, and the starter switch - means it ends up getting a few volts less than battery voltage.

That sounds like nice upgrade. To kick the relay on do you pull power from the existing feed to the headlight?
