I made some changes to my 750 last winter including switching to blade type fuses. Not the same as your 550 exactly but you get the drift, just bought those weatherproof single fuse holders and epoxied them to a backing plate.
Since then I've seen on here some guys that found a fuse block that is very neat and wouldn't take much work to wire in place of the original. Try a search for fuseblock.
