Leaking overflow's Driving me crazy
« on: July 15, 2008, 08:19:01 AM »
I've taken the Carb off my bike a hand ful of times already and my overflows won't stop leaking. I replaced to 2 of the floats on the carbs that were leakin, #'s 3 and 4. and the problem got worse. Are floats the only thing that would cause this? or could valve clearance or timing affect it also.

I don't do 550s but there have been a number of threads here pertaining to one potential issue - cracked over flow tubes that allow gas to flow from below their top opening. If you haven't checked these for tiny cracks you might want to do so. If you do find cracks you might be able to solder them. For more information please do a search for this subject. You will find much more info than I can provide.

When you replaced the floats, what height did you set them at? Did you check float needles for wear?
Give me..a frame to build a bike on, and my imagination will build upon that frame
