VIN numbers on Cb750s
« on: July 21, 2008, 02:51:40 PM »
Hey everyone,  is there any way to decode the vin number on the SOHC-4 Cb750s?  I know you can figure out what year the frame or engine is from the number series but what I'm mainly wondering is if there is a paint code in there somewhere to see what the original color was. Anyone know?

Sorry, there's no paint code in the VIN.  It's basically just a serial number.

Honda didn't adopt paint codes until much later, so it's anybody's guess as to what the original color was... :(

Not even Hondas records in japan will tell you what colour it was originally---they didny care

If it hasnt been stripped or replaced, your best bet would be to sand through the paint in some non obvious place like in the tunnel under the tank, the last colour before you hit metal would be the original paint.
No chance if its been stripped though.
