Constantly on neutral light...
« on: September 02, 2005, 11:03:45 AM »
Hey guys,

My neutral light is constantly on, but gets a tad brighter when actually in neutral.  Is there a switch that could have gone bad or would it be an electrical short somewhere in the harness?  If it's related, my turn signals do not blink except for very sporatic instances.

Any help would be great.  Thanks!

What bike?

There is a switch under the cover by the shifter. Usually thay fail open circuit and you get no neutral light!

The switch can be replaced.

The wire to the neutral switch usually completes the ground of the circuit, so if it shorts to the frame anywhere the light will come on. I had this issue on my bike (CB750) and the cause was from the neutral switch wire insulation chafing on the engine case where it turns to go under the engine. Some heat shrink tubing took care of it.

As for the turn signals, check the bulbs and sockets, looking for corrosion. The Flasher relay might be shot too. You can replace it with an automotive one for about 3 bucks.
