Topic: 82 kz550 stumbles between 6k-7k

I'm currently working on my brother in laws bike - idles great, even when cold.
When I take it for a ride, it stumbles and sputters between 6k and 7k - below that it's great, and once it makes it past that, it rips right on up to redline.

Any thoughts?
